Categories:
Senior Advanced (three categories): Women, Men, and Co-ed
Senior Novice (three categories): Women, Men, and Co-ed
Junior Advanced (three categories): Women, Men, and Co-ed
Junior Novice (three categories): Women, Men, and Co-ed
Entries: You may enter up to seven katas with the same partner or with different partners ONCE per division. In other words, you may not “compete against yourself” in the same division.
Check-In: 7:30 AM -8:30 AM on Tournament Day
Tournament Start: 9:30 AM
Entry package
The entry package must include:
1. The entry form fully completed with details of:
• The katas you are entering
• Whether you are Tori or Uke
• Indicate whether you are competing Advanced or Novice
• Full name of partner in each kata
• Full contact information, including address, phone numbers, and email
• Membership information, including membership number
• Total amount of fees you are sending
2. Waiver form completed and signed
3. Entry fees (checks should be made out to Soko Joshi Judo Club)
Deadlines and Entry Fees
Early Registration: Entries received up to and including September 26 $40 per kata per person for the first three katas entered (that is, $120 per person for three katas); $15 per kata per person for any additional katas entered.
Example: Jane Smith is competing in seven katas with three different partners. She will pay 3 x $40 ($120) + 4 x $15 ($60) = $180.
Late Registration: Entries received after September 26 and up to and including October 3: Add a one-time “Late” fee of $40 to the above fees.
Example: If Jane Smith’s entries are received on October 3, her total fee will be $180 + $40 = $220.
Make checks payable to Soko Joshi Judo Club. Bring your USJI, USJF, or USJA membership card on the day of tournament.
Entry forms, waivers, and checks must be received by the deadlines above. Email may be used for questions and other correspondence, but all entry forms must be mailed via hardcopy.

Registration and weigh-in:
8:00 AM – 9:00 AM for Juniors (6-8yrs old)
8:00 AM – 9:00 AM for Juniors (9-12yrs old)
10:00 – 11:00 AM for intermediates (13-16 yrs old)
11:00 – 12:00 AM for All Seniors Division
Note: Families with multiple competitors can register/check in all their children with their youngest competitor.
Officials Meeting: 9:30 AM
Tournament starts at 10:00AM
Online pre-registration will be available from August 1 through September 16 at http://www.ebji.org/ Online registration will be $40. EARLY-BIRD-DISCOUNT (through September 9) will be $30. All payments will be made through Paypal. Incomplete online registrations will be charged the WALK-UP entry fee.
Walk-Up Entry Fee $60.00

Tournament Rules
All matches will be conducted using the current contest rules for Judo as stipulated by the International Judo Federation (IJF), with the following modifications:
1. The following techniques will not be permitted for contestants 12 years of age and under:
1. Shime-Waza (Choking techniques)
2. Double Drop-Knee Seoinage
2. Kansetsu-Waza (Joint lock techniques) will be allowed in the Black Belt divisions only.
3. The illegal application of techniques in #1 or #2 will result in Hansoku Make (loss of that match).
4. Judogi check for non-black belts will follow the pre-2009 rules and allow the contestant to change judogi.
5. Blue and white judogi (or alternatively, white judogi with blue and white belt) are required for all contestants.
6. CARE system will not be use. Matches will be officiated by referee assisted by 2 judges.
7. Contest areas will be 6.5m x 6.5m with a 4m safety area.

Scoring
1. Only wazari and ippon will be scored. All penalties will be called.
2. Shido penalties will not determine the outcome of the match. If scores are tied at end of regulation match time, match will go to Golden Score.
a. Only score of Wazari or Ippon/Hansoku Make will end Golden Score (Shido will not end Golden Score!)
3. The winning contestant in each match will be awarded points, according to the level of win, as follows:
a. Ippon 10 points
b. Wazari 7 points

Tournament Rules

2. Kansetsu waza (arm lock techniques) will be allowed in Blackbelt divisions only
3. No standing Waki Gatame in any division
4. Pre-2003 medical rules will be used for injury except for the Blackbelt division
5. Pre-2009 rules for judogi control will be used in all divisions except for Blackbelt division
6. Contest areas will be 6 x 6 meters
7. Safety areas between contest areas will be 4 meters, outside borders will be 3 meters
8. Golden Score for Junior division: 1 minute
9. CARE system will not be in use
10. Initial leg grab in Junior division will result in Shido, next leg grab infraction will be Hansoku Make
